Md Mizanur Rahman has a Ph.D. in Sociology from National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. He was awarded NUS Research Scholarship for the duration of his doctoral research. He was also awarded Social Science Research Council (SSRC, USA) Bangladesh Fellowship for his PhD research fieldwork. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Asia Research Institute and Research Fellow at Department of Sociology, at NUS. He was also a visiting scholar at the Department of Sociology, University of Western Ontario, Canada and Graduate School of Policy Science, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan.
Dr Rahman was commissioned by several international organisations including Ford Foundation, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) – East and Southeast Asia to write reports on international migration issues in the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia. In 2006, he was invited to attend a workshop on Irregular Migration, convened by UNITAR, UNPFA and IOM, at the UN Headquarters in New York. He is Editorial Review Board member of Migration Letters – An International Journal of Migration Studies, South Asian Journal of Global Business Research, and Global Journal of Quantitative Science.
Dr Rahman’s areas of expertise include diaspora engagement, migrant businesses, international labour migration, immigrant integration, migration and development, migration policy and migrant remittances. He has conducted fieldwork in a number of countries in Asia and Europe such as Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Bangladesh, Qatar, the UAE, India, Indonesia, Germany, Italy, and Hong Kong SAR. He is currently conducting fieldwork in Canada, the USA, the UK, India, the UAE, and Bangladesh for his book projects on South Asian Diaspora and Development.
