Dr Emma Jane Flatt is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill. Prior to joining UNC, Chapel Hill, she was an Assistant Professor of History at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Dr Flatt is currently completing a book titled The Courts of the Deccan Sultanates: Living Well in the Persian Cosmopolis (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming 2018). Her other publications include articles on friendship and sociability, the cultural construction of the senses, wrestling as an ethical practice, gardening, astrology and olfactory magic. She is also the co-editor (with Daud Ali) of a volume entitled, Garden and Landscape Practices in Precolonial India: Histories from the Deccan, (Routledge 2011). Dr Flatt obtained her PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
