The US-China trade war has escalated with both countries imposing more tariffs on each other’s imports as bilateral talks have failed to provide breakthroughs. As the impact of the trade war assumes wider proportions across supply chains and production networks, regional businesses are having to calibrate strategies in an uncertain and unpredictable trade environment. The discussion will note some potential global trade scenarios prepared by the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Future Council on Trade and Investment and examine the relevance of these scenarios in the current and future contexts. The focus will be on impact on countries and businesses from Asia-Pacific, including major South Asian economies like India and ASEAN and will highlight possible pitfalls and new trade opportunities.   Moderator Dr Duvvuri Subbarao Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow Institute of South Asian Studies, NUS; and Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India Panellists Dr Amitendu Palit Senior Research Fellow; and Research Lead (Trade & Economics) Institute of South Asian Studies, NUS Dr Deborah Elms Founder and Executive Director Asian Trade Centre Dr Raymon Krishnan Director of Corporate Advisory Asian Trade Centre Ms Kimberley Botwright Policy Analyst, Digital Trade, International Trade & Investment World Economic Forum
