Dr Rajni Gamage’s research focus is on authoritarian populism and the politics of development in Sri Lanka and more broadly, South Asia and globally. Her PhD was a critical political economy analysis of the authoritarian populist Mahinda Rajapaksa regime in Sri Lanka, titled Nation as Village: Historicising the Authoritarian Populist Regime of Mahinda Rajapaksa in Sri Lanka.
Prior to joining ISAS, Dr Gamage worked as a researcher in Colombo, Sri Lanka and as a Senior Analyst at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Relations (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University.
Dr Gamage graduated with a DPhil in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Queensland, Australia in 2022. She holds a MSc in International Relations from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Relations (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University and a B.Soc.Sc. in Political Science from the National University of Singapore.
